Back on episode 115 of Entertainment 2.0 we had Mike Faucher from the BYOB Podcast (Build Your Own Box) on to talk about guidelines for building a home theater PC. Mike was nice enough to put together a list of components to build a very nice HTPC that should meet all of your needs without completely breaking the bank. While we discussed all of the component it’s not always convenient to write down those components while listening. To make your purchasing decisions a little easier we’ve decided to put that list up here on the site. For added convenience we’ve also provided links to the products on both Amazon and NewEgg.

Great interview. Interesting, I choose these almost a year ago:
Antec Black Aluminum / Steel Fusion Remote Black
GIGABYTE GA-H55M-USB3 LGA 1156 Intel H55 HDMI USB 3.0
Intel Core i3-530 Clarkdale 2.93GHz LGA 1156
Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 Media Center Kit Dual TV Tuner
COOLER MASTER Silent Pro 700 RS-700-AMBA-D3 700W
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)
Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EARS 1TB 5400 RPM
LITE-ON Black 4X Blu-ray Disc Reader SATA Model iHOS104-08
GIGABYTE KM7580 Black 2.4GHz Wireless Keyboard
EDIMAX EW-7128G PCI Wireless Card
Another comment that I had for people who are interested in recording TV. With my Hauppauge, I can record 2 HD TV shows and playback a HD TV (or ripped HD movie) at the same time without issues.
how about an amd build? also what about hd audio?
HD audio is one of the primary reasons this configuration was chosen by Mike Faucher when he was on the show. It will bit-stream all of the HD audio codecs.
We’ll be doing another post later with AMD components. But we’ve done this one already: http://www.thedigitalmediazone.com/2011/01/18/htpc-on-the-cheap-part-1/
I would replace:
case with a power supply for Foxconn RS-233 250W Black/silver or similar.
Motherboards on Foxconn H67S mini-ITX
