As in years past, the DMZ is preparing to cover the consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, The International CES 2014. Josh Pollard, Richard Gunther, and Corey Lyons will be on the ground visiting exhibitors, checking out the latest products, and getting interviews. With three of our writers and editors in Vegas, and even more providing support and assistance remotely, we’re hoping to offer our broadest coverage of CES yet.
It all starts Sunday evening with CES Unveiled, a press event showcasing a small set of vendors’ innovations. Monday is packed with back-to-back press conferences from the big-name consumer electronics companies—Sony, Panasonic, Intel, Dish, etc.—followed by some exclusive showings by vendors at PEPCOM, a press event unrelated to (but conveniently scheduled around) CES.
The show floor opens throughout the Las Vegas Convention Center and in numerous area hotels on Tuesday. Product demos, vendor meetings, private interviews, business deals—it all happens on the floor and in hospitality suites around Vegas. This goes on for four days, gradually transitioning from rabid hordes of press to a more subdued compliment of industry affiliates, including retailers, distributors, and manufacturers all seeking the next big thing for their inventories.
Half [usually more] of what we see there may never see the light of day. We have to remember that this show isn’t just about product roadmaps—it’s about innovation. We hope to find some of the more innovative wares and share our findings with you through posts, photos, podcasts, and videos. Expect a new episode of Home: On from the show floor, a new episode of thEndUsr early in the week to hear about some of the latest technology announced at CES, and Entertainment 2.0 later in the week (after we’ve had some more time to absorb it all!). And be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel to see our video coverage.
We have a pretty busy schedule, but if there’s a vendor’s products you’re particularly interested in hearing about or seeing, let us know at @digimediazone, and we’ll do our best to fit it in!
