Windows Media Center users across the United Kingdom and Ireland have been without electronic program guide data since the start of the new year. This has basically crippled DVR usage in those areas, so users have been filling the various support resource forums with their complaints. Some have switched to using over-the-air sources for their television fix as some of the guide data can be acquired via the signal directly, but even that solution doesn’t completely solve the problem.
Fortunately a Microsoft employee posted at the Windows Experts Community about a fix being rolled out across the UK. No details were provided as to what caused the outage or even how it is being fixed. They say that the solution to the issue has already been deployed for users in the UK. If you’re in Ireland you’ll need to wait a little while longer though.
From the forum post:
Microsoft is aware of the issue with the Electronic Programming Guide for Windows Media Center in the UK and Ireland. We have identified the cause and have already deployed a fix for the UK. A solution for Ireland is in the works and we will issue an update when the issue is resolved.
We apologize for the inconvenience to Windows Media Center users in these countries.
