A bit short on time this week, so the write-up’s going to be brief.

Blu-ray Review(500) Days of Summer

A fun, different and quirky take on romantic movies (the film opens with the statement “This is not a love story”). Great soundtrack, solid visuals and audio (though the audio is mostly front-loaded) makes for a recommended rental for sure.

What we’ve seen/are watching

  • A pretty dead week on the premieres and returning shows thanks to Geek Tonic. Dancing with the Stars headlines. Things pick up in April.
  • Life and The Pacific present a case study in how compression affects a film. Life, while stunning and brilliant, suffered from serious compression strain on Phil’s Comcast system when compared to HBO’s The Pacific. Phil also wonders why HD Theater was left out of the opening night Life party.
  • Slow start to the HD Sportsman’s week, but it picks up with the NCAA Tourney at the end of the week.

Blu-ray deals/Releases

Nothing to speak of in the March 30 release schedule, but April looks to be a great month.

On the deals front, we didn’t mention this on the show but Toys R Us has a possible great deal on Toy Story/Toy Story 2 on Blu-ray when you buy both. Use the coupons found here to get both for $14 total.
