CNet is reporting that Microsoft has officially confirmed that the Zune HD will be released this fall. Set up to go head to head with the iPod Touch, MS spokesman Chris Stephenson said that Zune buyers will be able to playback HD content on their TVs via a dock.
From the CNet article:
The Zune HD, which will be available in the U.S. only starting this fall, features an HD Radio tuner as well as an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) touch screen, Microsoft said. It is based on Windows CE and will use a version of Internet Explorer customized for its touch screen, Microsoft said.
The software maker did not announce pricing or capacity, though it said the device will use flash memory and attempt to take on Apple’s high-end iPod models.
I personally can’t wait for this device. I love my Zune and it looks as though MS will keep me coming back for more. Hopefully we’ll get full pricing and capacity details during E3 when Microsoft announces a new video marketplace that will start to integrate the Xbox Live Marketplace and Zune Marketplace.
