Microsoft Announces Kinect for Windows Release Date

Microsoft didn’t have a whole lot of news to actually announce at their opening keynote for the Consumer Electronics Show, but they did manage to announce availability of the Kinect for Windows at the very end of the press conference. You will be able to order one on February 1st. The Kinect for Windows is a separate device than the one being used by millions of Xbox 360 owners. It’s tailored to focus at a much closer range, where as the console gaming counterpart works best when you’re standing about eight feet away from it. Microsoft didn’t announce any new software to be launched with the Windows version. They also didn’t announce a price either, but Amazon did. The Kinect for Windows can be [amazon_link id=”B006UIS53K” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]pre-ordered now from Amazon for $250[/amazon_link]. The price seems a little steep to us. When the Kinect first launched for the Xbox 360 it seemed expensive at $150, and this another $100 more than that. Are you still planning to pick one up?
