You'll Need To Wait a Little Longer for Google Assistant on Sonos One

Is Sonos still committed to bringing Google Assistant to its Sonos One speaker, as previously announced? We have our answer: yes…but it’s not ready yet. In a blog post earlier this week, Sonos confirmed that the team is still working on bringing Google’s Alexa-competitor to its smart speaker. But it won’t be ready until sometime next year, in 2019.

When Sonos first announced the Sonos One back in October 2017, the concept was promising. The idea is that one smart speaker can support multiple assistants. Amazon’s Alexa was the first available on-board assistant. Then Sonos enhanced the speaker’s capabilities with AirPlay 2 support earlier this year. But support for Google Assistant has lagged, and consumers were getting antsy. Now, at least, we have some much-desired confirmation that it’s still in the works!

There is good news for highly active Google Assistant users, too. If you’ll commit to a certain threshold of listening and assistant use, you may qualify to participate in a private beta program. You can find out more information about this beta program and apply by completing this recruitment survey.

The [amazon_link id=”B074XLMYY5″ target=”_blank” ]Sonos One[/amazon_link] lists for $199, and for a limited time, it will also be available in five designer-selected colors for $229.
