Just when you thought there weren’t any video services left to join the Xbox ecosystem Microsoft has announced two more big properties. Now Xbox 360 owners within the US who also have an Xbox Live Gold subscription can enjoy comedy programming from Comedy Central and Nickelodeon.
Comedy Central has released an app fox the Xbox 360 called CC: Stand Up. It offers over 6000 videos of stand up comedy from over 700 comedians. While the adults in your house are likely to find a few laughs in all that programming there probably won’t be much there that you’ll find suitable for the younger members of the household. That’s where the other announcement comes in. With the Nickelodeon app that has also been released the kids will have plenty to laugh at too. This new app, simply called Nick, offers full length episodes along with shorter clips from many of the most popular shows on the network. This includes shows such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Sanjay and Craig, and Spongebob.
Both of the apps are available today for free. They also feature full Kinect support, so you’ll be able to control them with your voice or gestures.

Good stuff. I’m actually just getting my kids their first Xbox 360 at the end of the month. I hadn’t planned on any Internet connectivity for it since they’re pretty young, but I’m considering it as an extender to Media Center and stuff like this strengthens the argument for it. Guess I’ll have to wait and see once it arrives.
