MediaPort to Provide Digital Content To Troops Home and Abroad

image It’s good to see that our servicemen and women are able to keep some semblance of home while stationed thousands of miles away.  That includes getting to watch and or listen to the same things we take for granted here at home.

Mediaport Entertainment, Inc. announced today that it has signed a new multi-year contract for digital media services with the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), a multi-channel retailer with revenues of more than $9.7 billion annually. AAFES’ retail stores, catalog, and online retail services feature more than 18 million items that are sold tax free to U.S. active duty, Reserve and National Guard personnel, military retirees, and their families.

AAFES selected Mediaport after completing a comprehensive review process among major digital media service providers throughout the United States. The contract will provide AAFES customers with the ability to buy and load music, books, movies and other digital entertainment onto iPods, MP3s and Mobile phones as well as burn CDs or DVDs, and within the next quarter deliver content wirelessly to mobile phones.

“Our business serves military personnel around the world as well as their families who are located both home and abroad. This need made it essential that we seek out and secure the services of a reliable digital media service provider. Mediaport’s product ensures that our stores have the broadest and most up-to-date selection of entertainment media for our military families. With the Entertainment Center, we are able to offer an unlimited amount of entertainment media and service to troops, wherever they are called to serve,” said Robert J. Lopez, Divisional Merchandise Manager, AAFES.

AAFES operates more than 3,000 facilities worldwide, including retail stores and fast food chains like Taco Bell, Burger King, Popeyes and Cinnabon. They also operate convenience stores and on-base movie theatres and are considered by military personnel to be a close tie to the benefits of being at home. In addition, online shopping accounts for a growing amount of the products being sold annually.
