SageTV HD-200 Gets a New Beta Update

image Brent Evans, the…um, sage of SageTV has posted over at Geektonic that SageTV has released a beta update.  A few features include:

  • Improved UI performance
  • Network streaming improvement for media player mode
  • Optimized performance for high bitrate mkv files
  • Added support for zlib compressed subtitles in MKV files
  • Various subtitle support fixes
  •

There’s a lot more included and the full details can be found over at Geektonic!  I may not be a Sage user myself, but I love seeing a company push updates like this.  I does tend to make me a bit jealous since updates to MCE usually only come with OS changes.  Here’s to hoping that changes soon and MS can take a page from this small company.

    • Funny – Sage of SageTV 😉

Anyway, I think Microsoft has been taking pages from small companies like SageTV already. Microsoft Media Center was created borrowing many ideas from Snapstream's BeyondTV. XP Media Center was released the same year Bill Gates highlighted Snapstream as a great example of a Windows-based product… But in my opinion, the best way Microsoft could make the Media Center product/platform more nimble like its much smaller competitors would be to separate MC from the OS.
