Most readers know I haven’t jumped into the Blu-ray pool yet. The format just hasn’t had enough to offer for the price. Those prices are starting to go down and it looks like studios might actually start to make use of some of the features of the format. Not enough to sway me yet but a Blu-ray player will be finding a home with me soon.
When you buy the Watchmen Blu-ray disk tomorrow and throw it into a BD-live connected Blu-ray player on July 25th from 9pm to 12:15pm PST (approx.) you’ll actually get to listen to live commentary from the director, Zack Snyder straight from Comic-Con where he will be presenting the film. You’ll also be able to submit questions to Mr. Snyder during the show.
The special screening will be archived and available for future viewing.
I think this is a great use of the BD-Live feature and while I can’t say that I would watch and listen live, knowing that I could go back and hear commentary that was generated on the fly would be worth it to me if the movie was one I would want to see multiple times. Hopefully this will be successful enough that more studios will look to expand BD-Live content in future releases.
