This Week on Netflix – Jericho

This Week on Netflix - JerichoThis week I’m recommending a short 1.5 season show that aired on CBS back in 2007. Jericho is a post-apocalyptic drama set in the little town of Jericho Kansas. The show centers around Jake Green, the mysterious son of the mayor. He’s a kindhearted  rogue who doesn’t belong in a naive small town, perhaps why he left, but he’ll soon find that the skills he learned and his personality are fitting as a leader in a town on the brink of destruction.

Jericho is one of those shows that has some pretty intense, almost Lost-like, issues that the dynamic characters must work together to overcome.

Initially I said 1.5 seasons, let me explain… CBS being CBS, saw that the numbers weren’t where they needed to be so they cancelled the show after season 1. However, fan outcry led to a special seven episode second season, after which they killed it for good. I really believe that this is a fantastic show that merely suffered from poor marketing. The second season does a great job of wrapping up most of the story with little to be questioned, unlike most shows that are cancelled.

  • The Jericho story continues with the Season 3 – Civil War graphic novel, available in June from Amazon. The graphic novel is written by the show’s writers and producer and features the actor’s likenesses. The novel is opening up new storylines and bringing in new characters for the movie in development.
