Whether you’re looking to add more speakers to your home theater setup or get some extra content from the internet or your PC fed to your living room, Onkyo has you covered.
The company recently announced the release of three new A/V receivers that add several new features that warrant taking a look at. All three add networking and access to internet radio and are 9.2 channel THX Ultra2 Plus certified.
The Onkyo TX-NR1007, TX-NR3007 and the top end TX-NR5007 all include a rear panel Ethernet port and provide streaming from Pandora, Rhapsody, vTuner and Sirius Internet Radio. Each one is also Windows 7 compatible and has DLNA 1.5 certification which will ensure that you’ll be able to push your content to them from your PC.
"With nine amplifier channels, dual independent subwoofer outputs, and up-to-the-minute networking and AV processing, the flexibility of the ‘double-0’ series is unprecedented," said Paul Wasek, Marketing Manager, Onkyo USA. "You can have a full-tilt 9.2-channel theater using Audyssey DSX or Dolby ProLogic IIz, or a great five-channel theater with added power to the main speakers or to additional stereo zones – the list of possibilities is a long one. These receivers take home theater to the current frontiers of networking, audio, and video performance."
In the TX-NR5007 and TX-NR3007 you’ll find eight and seven HDMI 1.3a inputs respectively. Video processing is handled by the HQV Reon-VX chipset. The TX-NR1007 has a total of six HDMI inputs and handles 1080p upscaling via a Faroudja DCDi Cinema processor. All three feature dual parallel HDMI outputs which will allow you to to display programming on dual monitors either simultaneously or independently which means you can use this one receiver to feed two rooms.
On the audio side, the nine amplifiers offer a ton of configuration options. First up, the receivers offer a full 9.2 configuration with independent left and right subwoofers. You’ll also have access to two “height” speakers when you take advantage of the built in Audyssey DSX or Dolby Pro Logic IIz processing. You also have the option to run two stereo zones while powering a standard 5.1 zone. The TX-NR5007 will also allow you to setup a pair of independent stereo speakers providing you with a 7.1 surround sound experience as well as a stereo music experience in the same room. Perfect for the audiophiles out there.
While I’d love to pick up a TX-NR5007 to replace my aging Sony receiver, with a price point of $2600 I don’t see it happening anytime soon. The TX-NR3007 and the TX-NR1007 are a bit more reasonable at $2,099 and $1,599 respectively. All three receivers will be available September 4th.
