When you want to be able to watch TV in the kitchen or maybe a den, you don’t always have the space for, nor do you want, a 32 inch LCD with a full A/V receiver. That doesn’t mean you don’t want great sound and it looks like ViewSonic understands that.
The company is adding the stereo surround technology to it’s line of 16 and 24 inch 2009 LCD TVs. They expect to announce more models which will utilize the technology throughout the year.
"SRS TruSurround XT allows us to blend the stunning picture quality of our award-winning LCD HDTV lineup with the natural, high-quality SRS audio, and reward our users with a complete multimedia experience," said Gene Ornstead, DTV, Director of Business Development for ViewSonic. "We are excited about working with SRS Labs and look forward to integrating their innovative sound solutions in more ViewSonic products across the board."
"SRS is happy to have the opportunity to work with a dynamic, technology-oriented company like ViewSonic, which has recognized that whether an HDTV has a 16-inch or 65-inch screen, users desire the uncompromised immersive surround sound experience that’s possible through SRS TruSurround XT," said Allen H. Gharapetian, Vice President of Marketing for SRS Labs. "ViewSonic’s SRS-equipped LCD HDTVs will provide a uniquely powerful premium multimedia experience, while eliminating the hassles associated with wiring and setup of external speakers."
SRS technology processes multi channel sources through the stereo speakers in your TV giving the sense of surround sound where no exists. While this obviously doesn’t compare to a full on 5.1 or 7.1 experience, again, we’re talking about using smaller sets in places where you might not want all of that gear. Sounds like a good middle ground solution to me!
