Amazon.com has an amazing Gold Box deal running Monday, Dec. 14. You can get the award-winning HBO miniseries Band of Brothers box set on Blu-ray for just $40, a 60 percent savings from the original price. The DVD set is available for $32 (but who wants that, right?)
Band of Brother is an amazing 10-part series set during World War II. The film is based on Stephen Ambrose’s book of the same title. It follows Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne division from training in Georgia, through D-Day and to the end of the war.
This is by far the greatest television event I’ve ever seen. Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks produced the series, and Hanks even took a turn directing one of the episodes (Crossroads).
The Blu-ray is fantastic as well. It’s like watching 10 short feature films. Production values are high, sound is first-rate and the action is intense. The picture quality is wonderful, save for a bit too much noise in some parts. The Blu-ray also has one of the best special features I’ve seen yet, allowing you to watch the film with a timeline constantly running on the bottom of the screen. Throughout the timeline, newsreel footage, maps and pictures pop up with real WWII information.
This would be a great gift for the Blu-ray fan in your house.
