Hulu May Start Charging for Access

hulu-logo These rumors have already been discussed but it looks like it’s more than just content geeks and enthusiasts doing the talking.

Bob Iger, CEO of Walt Disney, stated recently at a technology conference held by Fortune Magazine:

"We have ample evidence both in traditional media and in new media that people are willing to pay for quality, they’re willing to pay for choice, they’re willing to pay for convenience," Iger said.

"It’s possible that Hulu will look at monetizing as well. It may be not just selling ads," he said

Iger also cited statistics that showed how much people are willing to pay for media content: $5 an hour to watch movies, 75 cents an hour reading books, magazines, and newspapers and 25 cents for every hour of Internet use.  He also added that the company is working on a Disney branded site that would provide their content on a subscription basis but didn’t provide any other details.

Disney took just over a 25% stake in Hulu awhile back and has agreed to provide television and movie programming.

Sorry but I won’t pay for Hulu.  Pixelated content that by their own ToS shouldn’t be viewed on the TV?  Let me just jump right on that.  Couple that with the fact that much of the content (TV anyway) is available for free OTA and you have a strong case for many people dumping the site for other options, legal or not.
