After being pulled from stores back in early April, the Nest Protect smoke and CO alarm is back on shelves for sale to consumers. Nest announced on its blog that the device is available again for a lower price point of $99.
Nest voluntarily pulled the alarm from shelves and disabled the Nest Wave, a feature that allowed consumers to silence a preliminary alarm by waving at the device. The Nest Wave feature is now eliminated altogether, but consumers can silence alarms by pressing the single, large center button on the face of the device.
According to a report by Engadget, Nest is working on a new solution for silencing preliminary alarms to replace the convenient (but flawed) Nest Wave feature. Nest’s blog post focuses on the importance of CO detection in the home. There’s no word yet on Nest’s updated roadmap for bringing the Nest Protect for Security Systems to market, as previously announced. In fact, references to that product are missing from Nest’s site.
