There’s been so much going on in the space: Harman Kardon has released a Cortana-powered speaker while Apple delays its own, Wink gets into the security space as ADT puts legal pressure on Ring, and one of our favorites, Stack Lighting, has pivoted away from consumer products altogether. As we approach the holidays, Josh Pollard joins us to discuss all this recent smart home news, catch us up on home projects, and share some gift recommendations.

Haiku or Hunter fans? Haiku! We had a new house built a year ago. I considered Haiku and Hunter. The only advantage for Hunter was Homekit compatibility. We bought three Haiku fans: two for bedrooms and one for the great room. We only got the wifi / wall module for the great room – works great with Alexa! When we bought them (at $450 each), Big Ass Fans included a free smart lighting unit with each fan, too. So, I used two lights in the back hall / laundry room and the third in the walk-in pantry. All are set to turn on automatically when they sense motion.
Great information, Steve. Thanks for sharing this. I’m leaning heavily toward the Haiku fans!
So…. On smart home automation for Fans… I have been thinking about using a GE Z-Wave Plus Wireless Smart Fan Speed Control, 3-Speed, In-Wall ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XTKQTTV/ )
I figure that with the above control, I can choose any fan, and make it smart….. I would love any feedback on the merits…
