Nokia Announces Lumia 1520 and 1320 6″ Windows Phones

Nokia Announces Lumia 1520 and 1320 6" Windows Phones

Nokia wasn’t just announcing a new Windows RT tablet at Nokia World today. They also had a few phones to show off. On the Windows Phone side they announced the Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1320. They both have 6″ displays, but most of the rest of their specs are pretty different.

Nokia Lumia 1520

The Lumia 1520 is the highest-range model in Nokia’s ever-growing line-up of phones. It’s not only the first 6″ Windows Phone, it’s also the first with a 1080p display. If the size doesn’t scare you off then you’ll also be comforted to know that the display looks as great as the other high-end phones we’ve seen from the Finnish manufacturer. The Lumia 1520’s display isn’t the only thing to be excited about though. It’s also packing a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of on-board storage, and most importantly, the 20MP PureView camera. While it’s not the 41MP sensor of the Lumia 1020, the Lumia 1520 can still do 2x zoom and has the same optical image stabilization. Nokia also showed a folio cover for the 1520 to help keep the large screen protected. Despite the phone being tall and wide, and fairly heavy, it is thin at only 8.7mm. It also sports a massive 3400 mAh battery, so it should last all day without issue. Of course it wouldn’t be a Lumia if it didn’t offer some color choices. You’ll be able to pick up a Lumia 1520 in yellow, red, black, and white. It should run $749 off-contract, and it will be available before the end of the year.

Nokia Lumia 1320

Nokia Announces Lumia 1520 and 1320 6" Windows PhonesWhile the screen size of the Lumia 1320 may be the same 6″ as the Lumia 1520 almost every other specification has been trimmed back for the 1320. The display resolution drops down to 1280×720. The processor is a dual-core Snapdragon S4. It has 1GB of RAM, and it only has 8GB of on-board storage. That does mean that it offers MicroSD expansion though. The camera isn’t even in the same ballpark as the 1520. The Lumia 1320’s rear camera only weighs in at 5MP. All of these lower-end specs do you net you one thing: a lower price. The Lumia 1320 should launch for $339 off-contract. If this device really strikes you unfortunately you’re going to have to wait a little longer for it. It won’t ship until the first quarter of 2014.
